Having been lead, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on profession of our faith, having been baptized in the Name of our Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, we do now, in the presence of God, angels, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ. We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church in knowledge, holiness and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline and doctrines; to give it a sacred preeminence over all institutions of human origin; and to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel through all nations. We also engage to maintain family and private devotions; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred, acquaintances, and all others; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful to our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger; to abstain by the Holy Spirit’s leading from such worldly amusements as watching ungodly movies, worldly music, and dancing; to be free from all oath-bound secret societies and mass evangelism partnerships with unbelievers; to abstain from pornography, gambling, the sale or illegal use of narcotic drugs, or intoxicating drink as a beverage; and be zealous in our efforts to advance the Kingdom of our Savior. We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember each other in prayer; to aid each other in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, and mindful of the rules of our Savior, and to secure reconciliation with out delay. We moreover engage, that, when we remove from this place, we shall as soon as possible unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of the Word of God. |
What is the meaning of Life? In this age of changing values and uncertainty about the future, Herring Lake Baptist Church has an answer for the meaning of life and the reason we are here. The most important thing in life is not our house, nor our job, nor our family, but our personal relationship with God. Listen for a moment to what the Word of God says:We are sinners“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23God has done something about our sins“But God demonstrates His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8We must accept Him“That if you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.” Romans 10: 9, 10Only Jesus Christ can meet the needs and longings of your heart. And only when we accept Jesus as our Savior and honor and serve Him with our lives will we find true contentment. We would encourage you to learn more about His will for your life with us at Herring Lake Baptist Church. |
